I served as Associate Editor for the journal Wetlands between 1999 and 2002. I selected peer reviewers and made recommendations regarding acceptance of manuscripts in the areas of wetland seed banks, seed germination, and seedling recruitment.

University Activities


I serve on numerous committees providing a wide range of administrative, curricular, admissions, and personnel functions at the departmental, college, and university levels. I also am the vocalist for the winter commencement ceremonies of the College of Agriculture and Natural resources.


Community, State, and National Activities


Participant and presenter at the University of Maryland-Anacostia Watershed Restoration Committee Partnership Workshop. Other participants included University of Maryland President Dr. Clayton Mote, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dean Dr. Tom Fretz, College Associate Dean Dr. Scott Angle, and members of the Washington Council of Governments, the Sierra Club, the City of College Park government, the Eyes of Paint Branch conservation group, and the Anacostia Watershed Society. I gave a presentation entitled "Restoration of tidal freshwater marshes in the Anacostia watershed (February 2, 2001).

Testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Resources, Subcommittee on Fisheries Conservation, Wildlife, and Oceans on "Marsh Restoration: Nutria Control in Maryland" (my component was entitled "Wetland Restoration Demonstration Project") (July 16, 1998).

Made presentations on restoration of coastal wetlands to staff of Maryland Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Congressman Wayne Gilchrest, the Chesapeake Bay Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the U.S. Geological Survey the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Tudor Farms (1998-1999)

Mentor for high school students on Biology Science projects as a member of the Connection Resource Bank, Montgomery County Public Schools (1998-present).

Hosted a daylong activity for the winners of Howard County Middle School science fair and their parents (April 1998).
